High Speed Wireless Internet

Technology

The RC Electronics wireless network is solidly built on the Motorola Canopy™ wireless broadband platform. Motorola has been a leader in the wireless technology field since 1928. Canopy was engineered to be an outdoor solution that addresses many of the issues associated with other wireless technologies, DSL, and Cable.

Other wireless technologies, such as wi-fi, operate in the crowded 2.4GHz spectrum along with home networks, cordless phones, and hackers with "pringle cans" looking for a free ride. Canopy operates in the 900MHz and 5.7GHz bands and can handle many simultaneous connections without affecting speed or latency. The Canopy radio is mounted to the outside of your home or business and doesn't move. Since the radio doesn't move, like a cell phone, the signal will be reliable and the service will work as advertised.

The Canopy system also has an advanced quality of service mechanism that allows for bandwidth management. This means your connection can perform faster than the purchased speed when extra room is available.

Instant "Always On" Access

PPPoE (Point to Point Protocal over Ethernet) is a method that DSL providers use to connect their customers to the internet. PPPoE requires you to go through a connection process similar to a dial up connection. It does not provide a true "always on" connection. RC Electronics does not use PPPoE so the connection is truly always on and available instantly.

Clean Installs

A small Canopy radio is mounted to your roof and a single wire runs into your computer or existing network. No extra phone lines are required and, unlike DSL, you do not need filters installed on each and every telephone in your home.

Security

Security is always a concern, but a wireless connection from RC Electronics is actually more secure than other broadband connections. Websites that ask for sensitive information already encrypt all data sent from the server all the way back to your computer regardless of how you connect to the internet. In addition to a server encrypting sensitive information, our wireless modems encrypt all information that passes over the link, whether the information is sensitive or not - other broadband technologies do not do that.

You may have seen stories on the news about people sitting near your home with a laptop and a "pringles can" as an antenna and eavesdropping on you. Rest assured that our system does not work like that. Those news stories are talking about a popular short range wireless technology called wi-fi. Many of those networks are setup inside a home or business without security or encryption, leaving the network wide open. Our wireless network is built on proprietary technology that authenticates subscriber modules before service is provided. This prevents unauthorized users from accessing out network.

Most broadband connections hook your computer directly to the Internet with no protection! Not RC Electronics. Our Canopy equipment has a built-in firewall which protects your computer from threats on the Internet. With other services a firewall is usually an extra fee. With RC Electronics this valuable service is included at no extra charge!

Our network is secure by default!

Speed

Our Canopy network runs in the 900MHz and 5.7GHz bands and is fast enough to support demanding Internet applications, such as gaming, Internet security cameras, VPN, and VoIP.

High Bandwidth and Low Latency

There are two components to an Internet connection, how wide it is, bandwidth measured in bps (bits per second) and how long it takes to send information over the link, latency measured in ms (milliseconds). Latency is how fast a webpage changes when browsing and bandwidth is the rate the information is able to come down the pipe. VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) and online gaming are very sensitive and require low latency connections. These services work well over RC Electronics wireless. In contrast, satellite connections typically have high latency and don't work well for VoIP and online gaming. The best connection is a combination of low latency and high bandwidth - the RC Electronics connection!
